The 4th grade students in Mr. Romo's class worked very hard to become teachers for their LEGO Education Conference workshop this past Saturday at HTeCV. They practiced and created a new project to present for their workshop, "Starting from Scratch: Students as Coding Experts." We had a great turnout, especially with the LEGO education President himself! Teachers, LEGO education and Tufts CEEO all came out to enjoy a day of fun and learning. If you ever wondered about having your students host their own workshop, my advice is do it! But, scaffold the process just like you would a project. The students really did an amazing job of facilitating and all their hard work helped them gain confidence, overcome fears, and learn even more from each other in the process. I highly recommend giving students the chance to share their work with an adult audience in the form of a student-led workshop. It will change your perspective on teaching and learning. |
