Kindergarten Fall Trimester with Ms. Rosemarie Biocarles-Rydeen

Make Way For Ducklings
Create a way for the the ducklings to get safely across the road!
Picture
We kicked off our Engineering in Literacy Project with Ms. Jacobsen who shared the story of "Make Way for Ducklings" by  Robert McCloskey.

The problem: How can we get the ducklings safely across the road?

Our story: Using only paper, string, a plastic cup, masking tape, craft sticks, and foil, the kinder kiddos engineered some creative ways of getting the ducklings across the road.

60-minute Lesson:
5 min- Song and Dance intro: Five Little Ducks
10 min- Story Read Aloud, "Make Way for Ducklings"
Materials distribution*
25 min- Prototyping/Testing/Refining
5 min- Song and Dance reprise
5 min- Clean up
5 min- Reflection

Materials:
newspaper, string, craft sticks, straws, tape, foil, plastic cup, a duckling (we used a pattern block to represent the duckling)

Make a road to cross as your testing station out of butcher paper and tape.
