Engineering Our Dream Classroom - Grades 4/5

Essential Question: How can we design a classroom that meets our needs and inspires us?

Picture
In this project, our K-5 students will work together to create their dream classroom. They will learn the design process and the habits of an engineer through this first design challenge. Students will figure out how to utilize the space, organize tools and materials, and cooperate with the grade levels to design a classroom that fits all of their needs and inspires them daily to be great engineers!

The Kinder Garden - Kindergarten

Essential Question: How can we create a water wise garden?

Picture
In this project, Kindergarten students learned about water conservation and how to create an up-cycled, water wise garden in our drought-stricken environment.
We looked at various models of vertical gardens, examined our playground space to choose a location, and planted succulents in donated soda bottles that were cut out and hung up on our fence. We hope that this garden serves as a reminder of how we can save water and be water wise.

Scratch Butterfly Games - 4th Grade

Essential Question: How can we design a game that will teach people to empathize with the Monarch butterfly?

In this project, students in Mr. Romo's class applied their learning about the monarch butterfly to create an interactive game using Scratch. They learned basics of programming using code.org Hour of Code and then created a game to teach people amazing facts about the monarch butterfly.
