Levers

Description: Students explored the different kinds of levers through a series of experiments and challenges.

Resources:
  • Videos about Levers
Animation about a lever, "What is a lever?"
Sesame Street video, "Lever Lover"
Sid the Science Kid (Search for "Lever Investigation")
  • Lever experiments from the book "Explore Simple Machines with 25 Great Projects" by: Anita Yasuda
Picture
Chopstick Challenge:
Students learned how to use chopsticks, a first-class lever, to lift popcorn from one bowl to another.
Balancing with a Lever:
Students made levers using rulers as the bars, play dough as the fulcrum, and different sized glue sticks as the loads.

Robo Arm:
Students made a robo arm using cardboard, string, straws, tape and brads to kick a cup and pick up objects.
