Bright spots from our First Week in Engineering and Design

In our first week, we learned about hopes and dreams for engineering class. Students shared their interests and their prior knowledge of engineering with me. It was a very different challenge for me, teaching six grade levels that are all new to me in a formal context of school. However, amidst the challenges of learning the ropes, we had some bright spots to celebrate.

Students in 5th grade do a chalk talk sharing the following: "What excites you about engineering?" "What challenges do you face in engineering?" "What are some wild and crazy ideas for projects in engineering?"

First graders share designs with me using pattern blocks following our lessons in shapes.

2nd graders share their creativity as they construct "creativity caps" out of foil.

4th graders work on initial designs for their dream engineering classroom.

3rd grade gets creative making habitats for their "class pets" out of cardboard and other craft supplies.
